Summertime

Whew! Summer has begun! The temperatures are rising and we are already finding ways to beat the heat....and it is only our first day of summer. *started this post Monday....wonder when I'll finish it....*

Last week was Eli's last week of school, and it culminated with MESSY DAY. A day he has honestly been looking forward to all year long. He was all smiles as he headed off to school for the final, messy day.

Mommy was busy with projects trying to find fun ways to say thank you to Eli's teachers for putting up with helping him all year long. He's a spirited little one, that's for sure. These teachers needed many thanks.

Our teachers were treated to an herb plant, lunch, and a yummy Cake Pop dessert (along with the rest of the school's faculty and staff.)

As cute as these little suckers turned out, they were a pain in the booty. The basic recipe and idea came from Bakerella's blog. And the recipe itself is easy. Making them all cutesy pushed me over the edge. Not sure they are worth the effort...but they were really really yummy, so maybe they were worth it after all. Maybe I'll do a simpler idea next time around...and maybe not in the summer. Transporting them in the heat was not easy either. But the teachers LOVED them, so that made us happy.

One of Eli's sweet teachers is having a baby this month, so the parents wanted to give her some goodies for baby girl too. I decided to tackle a little sewing project as Ms. N is a seamstress, and I figured she'd appreciate a homemade gift. I am thrilled with how this diaper/wipe/changing pad tote turned out.

I was so proud of the changing pad. I am learning new things...my first experience with bias tape and I LOVE the way it finished the changing pad. Found the tutorial here.

Soooooo....now it is summer and we are quickly finding ways to get out and about in this heat without too much heat rash to show for it. (Poor baby, Jude!) Eli and I refer to our outings as our "adventures." First official day of summer with a couple of friends over, so we just had to break out our little pool and new slip n' slide. So fun!

don't try this at home....slip n' slide wrestling. eek!

doesn't take his superhero-ing lightly

In fact, it was so much fun, that Eli wanted to go back out for round two before dinner.

grabbing a quick sip before sliding again

again and again and again!!!

Jude found ways to keep himself occupied outside as well. He squeals with excitement when we head out. So incredible to watch as he explores and discovers the world around him.

I can't wait to experience all of the adventures summer has in store for us. ....that is, after I adjust to our new routine. Having both boys all day everyday is taking some getting used to, but I'm getting there. Whew!
Happy summer!!
