U-Pick Em

Trying to go back and play catch up just a bit.  A few weeks ago, we headed out for an adventure picking blueberries with some buddies.  We are lucky to live within 30 minutes of several nice organic blueberry farms.  We visited two different ones last year and loved our harvest.  We pulled bags out of the freezer and enjoyed what we picked throughout the year.  We just had to go out and get some again this year.

As always, picking with friends is even more fun.  We were lucky to choose an overcast day, so it wasn't too hot.  Our weather this year has been very dry, so the owner told us that his crop is only about 25% of what it was last year.  Sad!  But, we were still able to pick plenty and have been enjoying them ever since.

Eli, the little stinker, decided that it was wayyy too much fun eating the berries and barely had any in his pail by the end.  He spent much of his time picking and putting them directly into his mouth. (This is when Momma is super thankful that they are organic!!)  And when he got lazy, he'd grab a handful from my bucket to munch on.  Couldn't help thinking of one of my favorite books, Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey.

It was a fun morning adventure.  And an adventure is definitely more fun with friends.

Yes, Jude came too.  He was a trooper and rode in the stroller and sling while we hunted for the best berries.  A wonderful morning, indeed.
