An End & a Beginning

Lots going on in our family these days, so there is a lot to catch up on.

Two weekends ago, Eli had his final soccer game of the season.  It was a double header in which he played his buddy Kent's team and then Mabry's team.

Eli's excitement and interest level, to put it lightly, dipped lower and lower with each game.  He quickly realized that he isn't the fastest or most skilled player on the field. He wasn't that aggressive or competitive, and with so many others fighting for the ball, he just didn't have the drive to get in there and go for it. I was constantly calling to him from the sidelines, "Where's the ball, Eli?"  He would run and run around the field, but rarely was where the ball was.  He was so clueless that during one game he said, "Ouch!  The ball hit me in the leg!"  Ummm, then you should have kicked it, goofball!  I was cracking up each week.  Little bit soccer is quite entertaining. I am proud of his perseverance (though we did have to encourage him a bit at times...) and his sportsmanship. Some of his highlights from the season include helping friends up after they had fallen.  So sweet.

Overall, it as a successful season!  He loved being a soccer player, and definitely loved the medal he earned.  He was so proud.

We loved working with this church league, and will be signing up for their t-ball in the spring.  I'm sure we'll be back out for soccer next year too.

And in Jude's little world, he is beginning to enter the world of "toddler."  ...Meaning he is beginning to take his first steps as of this week.  He will typically take one and then fall, but on his first day, he managed to get momentum up for a couple in a row while I was trying to catch it on video.

Just in time for his birthday this Saturday (what???)!  While speed crawling is still his preferred way to motor around, he loves standing and is working on standing up from a squat.  He is getting more balanced and stronger everyday.  I wouldn't call him a bipedal just yet, but he's close, for sure.
